  3. BACKGROUND ON DR. CODEMASTER

  6. Dr. Codemaster, the world's most evil scientist, was once a brilliant,
  7. productive, and prominent leader within the U.S. space program.
  8.  
  9. Two years ago, while working on a plant irradiation experiment, his
  10. laboratory equipment set-up accidentally broke apart, directing its
  11. mutating rays directly on to the unsuspecting Dr. Codemaster.
  12.  
  13. Over the next several months, Dr. Codemaster's personality underwent a
  14. dramatic transformation -- from a peace-loving man into a paranoid
  15. maniac with an intense hatred of others.
  16.  
  17. Resigning his position in the U.S. space program, Dr. Codemaster
  18. disappeared from public view.  Neither the government nor private
  19. industry knew where Dr. Codemaster had gone or what he was doing.
  20.  
  21. Several months ago, the U.S. space agency noticed that a large satellite
  22. was launched from a remote island in the South Pacific.  At that time,
  23. the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) became involved, tracking
  24. several purchased components of the satellite to Dr. Codemaster.
  25.  
  26. Ten days ago, Dr. Codemaster interrupted commercial television
  27. programming all around the world and delivered the following ultimatum:

  30.         "Unless all the nations of the Earth immediately
  31.          surrender and provide me all the gold in the treasuries,
  32.          I will freeze the world within 24 hours."
  33.  
  34. The U.S. military and space program are helpless against Dr. Codemaster.
  35. All attempts to bring down his satellite have failed when the rockets
  36. used to propel the U.S. intercept missiles have been frozen by Dr.
  37. Codemaster's freeze ray.
  38.  
  39. The F.B.I. has identified one potential flaw in Dr. Codemaster's
  40. personality profile.  He has become very egotistical and prides himself
  41. on his mathematical/logic abilities.  Consequently, he may be willing to
  42. engage in a battle of wits against another challenger -- with the future
  43. of Earth hanging in the balance.

  45. After an extensive computer search, the F.B.I. have identified you as
  46. the optimal candidate to oppose Dr. Codemaster.  You're definitely
  47. smart, but not so well known that Dr. Codemaster will reject the
